HERE COMES  THE FUTURE... TENSE!   UNIT 7

Close your ….

Close your eyes and I'll kiss you
Tomorrow I'll miss you
Remember I'll always be true
And then while I'm away
I'll write home every day
And I'll send all my loving to you

I'll pretend that I'm kissing
The lips I am missing
And hope that my dreams will come true
And then while I'm away
I'll write home every day
And I'll send all my loving to you

All my loving I will send to you
All my loving, darling I'll be true

Correct the dictation

"How Long Will I Love You?"
How long will I love you?
As long as there are stars above you
And longer if I can

How long will I need you?
As long as the seasons need to
Follow their plan

How long will I be with you?
As long as the sea is bound to
Wash upon the sand

How long will I want you?
As long as you want me to
And longer by far

How long will I hold you?
As long as your father told you
As long as you are

How long will I give to you?
As long as I live through you
However long you say

How long will I love you?
As long as stars are above you
And longer if I may

A bit of information about the band?
The Waterboys are a band formed in 1983 by Mike Scott. The band's membership, past and present, has been composed mainly of musicians from Scotland, Ireland and England. Edinburgh, London, Dublin, Spiddal, New York, and Findhorn have all served as homes for the group. The band has played in a number of different styles, but their music is a mix of Celtic folk music with rock and roll. After ten years of recording and touring, they dissolved in 1993 and Scott pursued a solo career. They reformed in 2000, and continue to release albums and tour worldwide. Scott emphasises a continuity between The Waterboys and his solo work, saying that "To me there's no difference between Mike Scott and the Waterboys; they both mean the same thing. They mean myself and whoever are my current travelling musical companions."[3]
The Waterboys have gone through three distinct phases. Their early years, or "Big Music" period was followed by a folk music period which was characterised by an emphasis on touring over album production and by a large band membership, leading to the description of the group as a "Raggle Taggle band".[13] After a brief return to the "Big Music" for one tour[14] and the release of a mainstream rock and roll album with Dream Harder, the band dissolved until its rebirth in 2000. In the years since, the band has revisited both rock and folk music, and continues to tour and release studio albums.

Across the universe

Words are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna
hange my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva

STUDENT A
I've ………  …………….a face
I can't forget the time or place where we met
She's just the girl for me
And I want the world to see we've met
Had it been another day
I might have looked the other way and
I'd have never been aware
But as it is I'll dream of her tonight

Falling, yes I'm falling
And she keeps calling me back again

I ……………..  …………..  ……………… the likes of this
I've been alone and I ……….. ………………. things
And kept out of sight
But other girls were never quite like this

Falling, yes I'm falling
And she keeps calling me back again

Falling, yes I'm falling
And she keeps calling me back again

"Green Eyes" BY COLDPLAY

Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
And I came here to talk
I hope you understand
The green eyes, yeah the spotlight, shines upon you
And how could, anybody, deny you
I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter now I met you
And honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes

Honey you are the sea
Upon which I float
And I came here to talk
I think you should know

The green eyes, you're the one that I wanted to find
And anyone who tried to deny you, must be out of their mind
Because I came here with a load
And it feels so much lighter since I met you
Honey you should know
That I could never go on without you
Green eyes, green eyes
Oh oh oh oh [x4]

Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand

Revising the past. Help me complete the song  LOSING IT  BY NEVER SHOUTS NEVER

Can you guess if the verbs are in the simple  past or simple continuous?

After that you can listen to the song and check if you were right.

All we ever ……………   was move around  (do)
I …………. always the new kid ( to be)
Never the cool kid

All I ever …………… to do  (want)

I am pretty sure most of you don't like jazz. Well, I do. So I would like to share with you the lyrics and video of the following song by Madeleine Peyroux, who, by the way,  is singing in Santiago de Compostela this week. What a shame we don't live there!

1. How many different verb tenses does she use?
2. Write the  infinitive of the irregular verbs given in the past.
3. Write the past of the irregular verbs used in the present.
4. Have you learnt any new word?

"I am all right"

"I'm All Right"

He made me laugh
He made me cry
He smoked his stogies in bed
But I'm all right
I'm all right
I've been lonely before
I asked the boy for a few kind words
He gave me a novel instead
But I'm all right
I'm all right
I've been lonely before
It's fine, it's OK
It was wrong either way
I just wanted to say
There isn't much fun when you're drinking wine
He got drunk, he fell down
He threw a few of my things around
But I'm all right
I'm all right
I've been lonely before

I'd like to believe that it's easy to leave
But I have to conceive that wherever you are
You're still driving my car
Sticks and stones break my bones
But tears don't leave any scars
So I'm all alright
I'm all alright
I've been lonely before

Mmm...
I'm all alright
I'm all alright
I'm all alright
Yeah
He played solitaire in bed
Used to blow bubbles in bed
He sang Christmas songs in bed

Today I  am bringing you a beautiful song composed by Leonard Cohen.  You will soon recognise it since it was part of the soundtrack of Shreck.
This is not my favourite version, but I would like you to know Emmanuel Kelly. If you want to know more about him. Go to the next post.

 Song

"Hallelujah"

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It’s not a cry you can hear at night
It’s not somebody who has seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well, really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Emmanuel Kelly
INSPIRATIONAL Melbourne teenager Emmanuel Kelly is on his way to Hollywood.
Kelly, 18, whose emotional performance of John Lennon's Imagine on The X Factor has been watched 11 million times on YouTube, has America in his sights after a successful trip to Los Angeles in January.
He will head back to the US later this year to follow up several successful leads, including an appearance on reality show The Glee Project.
If he's successful there, he could score a guest spot on the smash hit musical drama Glee.
Kelly, adopted son of Children First Foundation's Moira Kelly, filmed an audition with Glee casting director Robert J. Ulrich, who also welcomed him into his family home.
Watch Emmanuel sing Imagine on The X Factor

"I am very fortunate where I am right now," Kelly told the Sunday Herald Sun.
"I feel like I'm the luckiest teenager in the world. A lot of teenagers would be wishing for these opportunities to come up, but maybe it's all part of the plan.
"My dream is to change the world in some way and show that anyone can achieve if they put their minds to something."
While in Hollywood, Kelly recorded a song called Dream Big on a movie soundtrack for a film called Crooked Arrows.
Directed by Steve Rash, the story is about a native American lacrosse team.
On top of this, he has just released his own single on iTunes called Song For Edis, which was co-written with Moira and is now available.
But it's a future in the US that could very well happen for the charismatic singer.
Kelly was 17 when he met Ulrich in January when the Glee plans were discussed.
"He (Ulrich) said to me that when the executive producer saw me on X Factor he looked at me and said, 'We'd like to do something with you, whether we go on the show or whether you join The Glee Project itself'," he said.
"I think they are very keen so hopefully we can go somewhere with it."
Producers had wanted Kelly to be on the last season of The Glee Project, but he would have fallen foul of American labour laws because he was only 17 at the time.
Now, at 18, there's no stopping him.
Kelly and his brother, Ahmed, who has made the Australian Paralympics swimming team, were adopted from Iraq.
They had been abandoned as infants, both suffering limb deficiencies as a result of chemical warfare.
He has to have hip and possibly other surgeries this year, which will impact on when he returns to the US.

If you're looking for the big adventure
and gold is all that's on your mind
If all you want's someone to take your picture
then I won't waste your time.
See, maybe I'm too quiet for you
you probably never noticed me
but if you're too big to follow rivers
how you ever gonna find the sea?

Chorus:
so follow me i'll be your river, river
I'll do the running for you
follow me i'll be your river, river
i'll move the mountains for you
follow me, i'll be your river, river
i'm here to keep you floating
follow me
i'll be your river river. River, river, yeah

If all you want are answers to your questions
And you can't seem to find no love for free
If you're looking for the right direction
Then darling, look for me

See, I can make the load much lighter
I just need you to confide in me
but if you're too proud to follow rivers
how you ever gonna find the sea?

Chorus:
so follow me, i'll be your river, river
I'll do the running for you
follow me, i'll be your river, river
i'll move the mountains for you
follow me. i'll be your river, river
I'm here to keep you floating
follow me i'll be your river, river. River, river, yeah

through the good, through the bad, i'll never be hard to find
